I was excited for the second leg of our adventure – Vienna 🙂
After an eight hour train ride from Zurich, we arrived at Wien Hauptbahnho (Hbf) .
We bought 3 day metro tickets costing €16.50 euros or around P858. The 72-hour pass allows unlimited ride within the city.
It seems that the station works on honesty system, there are no gates where to tap your tickets, but as always – it pays to be honest right?
Our station is Langenfeldgasse metro station where across it, about 5 minute walk is our hotel – Star Inn Hotel. An affordable hotel for a budget mom traveller like me :))
Places we went to in Vienna:
St Stephen’s Cathedral – an architectural masterpiece. Very easy to locate, just hop in in a metro and get off at Stephenplatz.
Hofburg palace – the former imperial palace in Vienna. Part of the palace is being used as the official residence and workplace of the President. It has huge collections of dinnerwares used by the royal family
Across Hofburg palace is the biggest public park in Vienna – volks park. – a wide expanse of open space where people stay to while away the time or take their dogs for a walk.
Good thing about having the metro near your hotel is that you are sure you can find commercial spaces near the area. In the metro, we have 3-4 restarurants (there’s chinese, there’s a pizza place and a bakery) plus there is a nearby grocery where one can buy food provisions. but another good thing is we have a grocery right beside our hotel – making it very convenient to just run and grab stuff we need – including drinks 🙂
Next day we went to Schonbrunn palace — the summer residence of the royal family. consisting of 1000 plus rooms, it was needless to say a huge palace. Aside from visting the rooms, the ticket also give access to the Orangery – though at the time of our visit, there was nothing much to see (perhaps because its almost fall). Schonbrunn gardens is also a must see — endless greens and manicured trees and plants — very refreshing.
Taking a break from the museum trip, we went to the historic center where restaurants line the place. We found Nordsee – which offers seafood and decided we can eat this everyday in Vienna! Their salad was superb as well as their portobello burger — matched with beer – it was the bomb!
After taking a break, we went to Mozarthaus — at ticket cost of 13 euros — I think its a steal given that you’re actually reliving and walking the same steps the gifted and prolific artist stayed and walked on for 3 years.
The next day, we left early going to Wien Hauptbahnhof where we wait for our train going to our next adventure. Wien hbf — is like an airport with its size — with lots of shops and restaurants.
