Our flight from Berlin to Warsaw was cancelled so we decided to just take the 6 hr train from Berlin.

Aside from being the birthplace of 3 famous people – Chopin, Copernicus and well loved Pope John Paul II, we didn’t have much idea about Poland.
It was nice to be pleasantly surprised with the unexpected beauty of this country. Our first stop was its capital, Warsaw. Its pretty square and quaint Old Town are not to be missed.

Chopin’s multimedia museum boasts of being one of the most modern museums in Poland. Cost of tickets for the 3 of us is at P800+ – not bad for this impressive place.
The Museum covers the history and works of Chopin and includes original manuscripts and documents written by the composer, photographs and sculptures of him, and letters. It also hosts piano recitals and competitions of his works.

2.5 hours by train from Warsaw is Poland’s second biggest city, Krakow. This city likewise did not disappoint with its historical sites such as an old town, a church and a castle.
Unfortunately as it was Good Friday when we visited, the Museum Cathedral (opened in 1978 by Karol Wojtyła just before he became Pope John Paul II) and the Wawel Cathedral were closed.

If you think the exterior was a beauty, wait till you see the inside. This was a stolen picture as it’s not allowed to take photos inside.

Food stalls are available in the square as well as its famous Polish beer. Here’s my favorite – kielbasa and kebab. We also tried their sheep cheese pie which was very good 👌

Reminiscent of Prague but in a larger scale, Poland is a beautiful country to visit. There’s a couple of cities we’d like to visit (Gdansk, Wraclow) but didn’t have enough time for this visit. Maybe next time – always a good excuse to go back 😊
